Proposal Items to Address

  • Completed Grant Application Form

  • An original Proposal Statement

  • An audited financial report and a current year operating budget

  • A copy of your official IRS Letter with your tax determination

  • A Listing of your Board of Directors

  • A Proposal budget should be included if this is for a specific program within your annual budget.

 
 

The Douglas Prato, Richard & Mary Morrison Outstanding Wrestler Award

This scholarship is in honor of Doug Prato. Mr. Prato’s love for wrestling started in 7 th grade. His perseverance talent and hard work landed him a spot on the Varsity team as a freshman. He continued his passion for wrestling on SUNY Cortland team, while majoring in Physical Education. His pursuit of knowledge and learning continued as he attended Southern Illinois University and obtained his Master’s Degree in Physical Education as a graduate assistant. He was volunteer assistant coach to NCAA Wrestling Coaches Association President, Dr. James Wilkinson. He then obtained is Doctorate in Physical Education and Education Administration at Syracuse University where he taught Physical Education and officiated wrestling in the Syracuse area schools until 1975.

In 1975, he became the first Director of Physical Education and Athletics for the Corning Painted Post City School District. In 1979, he moved to Commack Public Schools on Long Island where he served as Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics for the next 24 years until he retired in 2003.

Throughout Mr. Prato’s 35 year career in Education he was able to apply many of the things he learned as a wrestler. Perseverance, sticking to one’s goals, not giving up, doing the best one could do, dealing with adversity, being loyal to his team and coaches, working hard, helping others to become the best they could be, being a good person and a good citizen amongst other things were all attributes and characteristics that Mr. Prato exhibits.

This Scholarship is for a graduating senior, who is wrestling in college. The recipient will be award $5,000 towards their college tuition.

  • Letter of Recommendation from a Coach, Teacher or Guidance Counselor

  • Essay, answering the following questions (no more than 25 words per question)

    • What have you learned from your high school wrestling experience?

    • What do you expect to learn from wrestling in college?

    • How would this scholarship help you achieve your goals in life?
